HERE’S HOW TO PROPERLY CLEAN A WHITEWALL TYRE:
Choose a properly formulated cleaner that is specifically for whitewall tyres or an organically based cleaner. If you have a blackwall tyre, you can go to town with all types of chemicals like bleach or chlorine, and use harsh abrasive methods to boot. If you do this on a whitewall tyre, you will destroy the surface of the rubber, and cause it to prematurely discolor or crack and wear.

Make sure the tyres are COOL to the touch and give them a thorough rinse down with clean water
Thoroughly spray the tyre cleaner on and let it soak in for 5 full minutes to really break down all that gunk and junk. Use a soft-bristled brush if necessary. No metal bristles!
Rinse off the cleaner with cool water, wipe down with a towel and enjoy your clean tyres. Repeat this process if necessary.
